About Mike Thomas
Mike Thomas’ roots in Panama City Beach run deep. He has live in Panama City Beach since he was an in infant. In 1969, he spent a year in Vietnam, earning a Bronze Star as a sergeant in the Army. After a year in Vietnam, he was sent to Panama for a year and a half. Upon his return, Thomas went into business with his father, who opened a doughnut shop in 1971. Mike is now the owner and still runs Thomas Donut & Snack Shop today. Then in 1986, Mike went down a couple of blocks from the donut shop and bought some property from his dad and built Mike's Cafe and Oyster Bar. The cafe is still owned and run by Mike and is still open today.
Along with being a life long resident of Panama City Beach and a long time local business owner. Mike has been heavily involved in the Panama City Beach community to make it a better place for locals and visitors alike. He hlped reshape the local Spring Break scene in Panama City beach into a more family friendly atmosphere and aidied in the development of the city's Sports Park.
He served for over a decade as the Bay County Commissioner and is a former mayor of Panama City Beach, Florida, who served from 2016 to 2020. As of January 2026, he was honored by the city, with the entrance to city hall renamed in his honor for his service and role in the building's reconstruction

In 1986 Mike Thomas decided to open Mike's Diner, a few blocks down the street where locals could enjoy a family friendly PCB restaurant. As demand grew for fresh seafood, Mike ventured into the Oyster business in 2011. Today, we are Mike's Seafood and Oyster Bar serving oysters and seafood in a family focused restaurant.
